The May 2015 Issue of the Newsletter Verdun-Meuse (http://verdun-meuse.fr/images/files/mai2015.htm) is now available. Each issue features a calendar of relevant events (Agenda section), book reviews and several well-researched articles. As alluded to by the thumbnail above, portions of this newsletter focus on France’s colonial troops.
The monument of the month (see “zoom sur” section) is the Town Hall / School in Neuvilly-en-Argonne; which was reconstructed in the 1920s with a gift of 100,000 French Francs from Guadeloupe. Technically, Guadeloupe is a department (state) of France; even though it is part of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean.
Readers traveling to France soon should pay special attention to the calendar of events, as it lists special events and expositions offered throughout the region in upcoming weeks and months. This includes an exhibit on war-time glass at Les Islettes.
Although the newsletter is in French, English speakers can read a passable translation using Google’s translation tool.
