Tour guide Randal Gaulke is proud to announce that he is teaming up with long-time German tour guide Markus Klauer to offer a very unique Small-Group Battlefield Walk Series featuring the Meuse-Argonne and St. Mihiel battlefields from 20-27 September, 2018.
Each day will focus on a different AEF Army Corps. The morning portion, the “monuments tour,” will cover key monuments and sites for that specific Army Corps by car. The afternoon portion, “the hike” is designed for individuals fit enough to walk for five hours with rest breaks. The distance travelled during “the hike” will be approximately 8km (5 miles), sometimes over uneven terrain. “The hike” is designed to get participants off the beaten path and to show participants some very unique portions of the battlefields that still exist. Participants can sign up for the “monuments tour,” “the hike,” or both sections–depending on their needs and physical abilities.
Group size will be limited to twelve individuals each day; allowing participants to maximize their participation and interaction with the guides. By teaming up with Markus Klauer, participants will get both an American and German perspective on the fighting.
There will be no tours on the weekend of 22 – 23 Sept. This will allow participants to attend the American Battlefield Monuments Commission’s commemoration events at the St. Mihiel American Cemetery (Thiaucourt) on 22 Sept. and at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery (Romagne-sous-Montfaucon) on 23 Sept.
