People of the Meuse-Argonne: Robert J. Laplander

Even today French locals , other Europeans and Americans find themselves drawn to the Meuse-Argonne region of France.  Once drawn there, many return time and again; often working on a multi-year research or preservation project.  In this irregular interview series, the webmaster hopes to introduce readers to some of these individuals and their labors of love.   1)  What are your name, nationality and occupation?  Robert J. News & Events–Stateside: World War 1 Centennial Commission Minutes, March 18, 2015

The World War 1 Centennial Commission holds weekly phone conference calls to keep the public abreast of upcoming events to commemorate the war.  This website plans to publish the minutes at least monthly.  The minutes for 18 March, 2015 are attached.  WWICCSyncCallMinutes0318 docx (2) Readers are encouraged to dial in to these calls, which take place every Wednesday at 12:00pm and which last about 20 minutes.

Sainsbury’s Christmas Truce Ad: 2014

The webmaster generally does not comment on topics outside of the Meuse-Argonne, but U.K. grocery chain Sainsbury’s created a wonderfully moving Christmas Truce Ad  and issued a bar of Belgian chocolate in a period wrapper; with profits from the sale of the chocolate bars going to the Royal British Legion, the U.K.’s leading armed forces charity.
